Polymer clay is fine particles of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) suspended in a plasticizer. It's a manmade material.

When working with Polymer clay it is recommended to wear gloves , whereas the clay will stain your skin and will also absorb skin oils, drying your skin and also transfering dirts into the clay.

Polymer clay is used to make everything from miniatures, dolls, figurines, decorative boxes and jewelry.

Polymer clay can be used to cover pretty much anything that will not melt or burn at low temps. You can mold it, carve it, paint it, stain it with embossing powders, even change it's luster with some of these products, it's all in what your imagination will let you decide. It can be sanded, buffed, stamped or textured.

This synthetic clay cures in an oven or toaster oven at low temps and will become hardened when cooled. Polymers are best finished with certain waxes and varnishes.

It has been my experience that polymer clays can and will dry out over time even when stored properly, although others will state it does not. It can be rejuvinated with time and patience. Also, some colors of some products will change during firing, so it's wise to test a small piece before going wild.

Polymer brand names include Fimo, Sculpey and Premo, which one you use all depends on what you dream to make. Polymer clays come in a large array of colors, even metalics and faux stones. So with a lot or a little money and some imagination, the sky is the limit with what you can do with polymer clays.
